I am a composer, sound artist, performer and facilitator. My research interests include: the voice as communicative and sonorous material in live performance and acousmatic compositions; interdisciplinary collaboration; and sound as a vehicle to explore creativity in the broadest sense. Other areas of interest include oral history and memory and site-specific contexts.
I gained a PhD in electroacoustic composition from the Music Department at University of Glasgow (2009, Advisor – Nick Fells) and worked as a Teaching Fellow there for two years. My doctoral research was fully supported by an Arts and Humanities Research Council Award.
My work ranges from live vocal performance and studio compositions to collaborations in theatre and visual arts, from writing and performing with experimental music groups to a variety of education outreach projects. Some recent works and projects include:
Songs for a Stranger, Arches Live (supported by a Creative Scotland Award) 2011; ‘Elektramusic’ web radio 2011; ‘All We’re Skilled In’ with GFT, Scottish Screen Archive and Plantation Productions 2011; Panic Patterns, Citizens Theatre (commissioned by Glasgay! and supported by A Creative Scotland Award) 2010; ‘Soundgate’, Aalborg, Denmark 2010; GLOW Co-Create ‘Hooks + Bites’ for Curriculum of Excellence (funded by Learning and Teaching Scotland and Creative Scotland) 2010; NAISA, Canada (radio and CD) 2010; Sim-po-zeum (with visual artist Sarah Tripp) GI Festival 2010; Festival Futura ‘Nuits blanches,’ (Crest, Drôme, France) 2009; The Garden of Adrian (with theatre practitioner Adrian Howells) 2009; Move Mood (with Sarah Tripp) Edinburgh, Glasgow, London 2009.
