Project Outline

The Plan B Collective creative team – a facilitator, sound-voice artist, visual artist and drummer – will work with children and young people to generate an interactive artbank on Glow.  The artbank will feature a ‘carousel’ of sound files and animations.   There will also be an exhibition piece – a digital audio-visual artwork that pupils and their families will be able to enjoy in Perth Concert Hall’s unique new media artspace, Threshold – on its soundbox, bank of screens and sound/audio unit in the public toilets.

‘Hooks + Bites’ is a demonstration project. Plan B’s creative team will tease out the topic of transition in 3 schools in Perth – at nursery, primary and secondary level.  Some of the themes that emerge are likely to be around fear of the new, excitement and trepidation, managing change, encountering differences – though the language and vision of a 5 year old compared with a senior pupil will be quite different. The principle can be adapted for other curriculum areas, topics and projects and Plan B will record how they work with the young people and how they generate artwork.  This will be shared in Glow to support staff implementing Curriculum for Excellence and encourage them to take artistic approaches to their work.

‘Hooks + Bites’ is is a partnership among Plan B Collective, Horsecross Arts Limited, Perth and Kinross Council, 55 Degrees and Plantation Productions.  The project has been funded through the Glow Co-Create Project, a partnership between Learning & Teaching Scotland and the Scottish Arts Council.

Glow is unique in the world – a £40million pound investment to underpin Curriculum for Excellence, the biggest reform of Scotland’s education system in a generation.  It connects all 32 authorities, has 150,000 users and in the long term can support the work of the 54,000 teachers and 750,000 students across Scotland.  The sound and image bites created for Glow will be accessible to all schools to download, use and repurpose for their own topic and project work.

The Co-Create project has been set up through a partnership between the Scottish Arts Council and Learning and Teaching Scotland.  It recognises the important role the arts can play in learning, in supporting and enhancing the Curriculum for Excellence and developing innovative new approaches to learning and teaching through Glow.

Managed by Learning and Teaching Scotland on behalf of the Scottish Government, Glow is the world’s first national intranet for education.  It provides a platform for online collaboration and sharing and allows Scotland’s 54,000 teachers and 750,000 pupils to work and learn in ways that have not been possible before.  Glow is breaking down barriers and making learning experiences and opportunities more widely accessible to users across Scotland.
